Participants were selected coconut farmers/operators from small coconut farmers organizations (SCFOs) with decorticating machines, together with the coconut development officers (CDOs) handling the respective SCFOs. The training aims to promote the coir/fiber utilization as an alternate source of income for coconut farming communities, especially now that the industry is facing various challenges due to low copra prices. The resource persons of the training were Mr. Nelson Victoriano and Ms. Amelia Fuentes, who are both experienced SCFO leaders with operational CHLCP decorticating machines. The training includes lectures and actual hands-on experience on the operation and maintenance of the decorticating machines, maximizing machine efficiency, and how to twine coir. The outputs of the participants in the training include the transformation of coir into geonets and coco logs, and twine for doormats.
