The PCA will be celebrating its 38th National Coconut Week with the theme “Paghubog sa Pilipinong Magniniyog Daan sa Pag-Angat ng Ekonomiya at Maunlad na Bagong Pilipinas”.One of the major activities is a Coconut R & D Webinar to be held via Zoom on August 28, 2024 from 9:00AM to 1:00PM. It aims to:

  • To inform and update the stakeholders specifically the coconut farmers on the relevant research outputs and strategies;
  • To instill recognition of the relevant research outputs into the stakeholders’ awareness thereby identifying gaps thru their responses and feedbacks;
  • To create awareness among the stakeholders on the on-going researchers and available technologies available in the research centers.

More than 2.1 million coconut seedlings were planted in 2023 and at least 8.5 million is set to be planted this year under the PCA’s Massive Coconut Planting and Replanting Project, in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s commitment to the objective of planting 100 million coconut trees by 2028.

According to Administrator Bernie F. Cruz, the PCA projects the number of seedlings to be planted in 2024 based on its available stocks and the number of seednuts currently sown in its nurseries, which the PCA has amassed in part through partnerships with local government units (LGUs) and coconut farmers’ cooperatives and without any augmentation to its regular budget.
